--Voltaire

“Between saying and doing, many a pair of shoes is worn out.”
--Iris Murdoch

“And the rest is rust and stardust.”
--Vladimir Nabokov, 'Lolita'

"I have dined with kings, I've been offered wings, and I've never been too impressed."
--Bob Dylan

“You can’t give up something you really believe in for financial reasons. If you die by the roadside - so be it. But at least you know you’ve tried. Ten minutes in the music scene was the equal of one hundred years outside of it.”
--Robert Plant

“The most important kind of freedom is to be what you really are. You trade in your reality for a role. You trade in your sense for an act. You give up your ability to feel, and in exchange, put on a mask. There can’t be any large-scale revolution until there’s a personal revolution, on an individual level. It’s got to happen inside first.”
--Jim Morrison

“You think you’re lost without any place left to go, like you need one of those kisses long and slow. At first glance it’s not what it seems, but there’s some things that I just know, like you take two sugars with a splash of cream. Take a guess where I stand. Pick a number from one to two. Take a look at the back of your hand. Just like you know it, you know me too.”
--Dwight Yoakum, 'The Back of Your Hand'

“The goal in life is to discover that you’ve always been where you were supposed to be.”

“The quickest way to know a woman is to go shopping with her.”
--Marcelene Cox

“You’re thinking too much. Just let it flow.”
--E. Paluszak

“If you’re twenty-two, physically fit, hungry to learn and be better, I urge you to travel— as far and as widely as possible. Sleep on floors if you have to. Find out how other people live and eat and cook. Learn from them—wherever you go.”
--Anthony Bourdain

“You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition. What you’ll discover will be wonderful. What you’ll discover is yourself.”
--Alan Alda

“When you are here and now, sitting totally, not jumping ahead, the miracle has happened. To be in the moment is the miracle.”
--Osho

“In my soul, I am still that small child who did not care about anything else but the beautiful colors of a rainbow.”
--Papiha Ghosh

“I promise myself that I will enjoy every minute of the day that is given me to live.”
--Thich Nhat Hanh

“All day I think about it, then at night I say it. Where did I come from, and what am I supposed to be doing? I have no idea. My soul is from elsewhere, I’m sure of that, and I intend to end up there. You are so weak. Give up to grace. The ocean takes care of each wave until it gets to shore.”
--Rumi

--Tallulah Bankhead

“The sign of intelligence is that you are constantly wondering. Idiots are always dead sure about every damn thing.”

--Willa Cather

“Everyone has ocean’s to fly, if they have the heart to do it. Is it reckless? Maybe. But what do dreams know of boundaries?”
--Amelia Earhart

“The only people who ever get anyplace interesting are the people who get lost.”
--Henry David Thoreau

“Gastronomical perfection can be reached in these combinations: one person dining alone, usually upon a couch or a hill side; two people, of no matter what sex or age, dining in a good restaurant; six people, of no matter what sex or age, dining in a good home.”
--M.F.K. Fisher, 'An Alphabet for Gourmets'

“..But the moment I got back in my car I knew I would never see him again, ever. It suddenly seemed obvious to me that the whole world, especially Los Angeles, was designed to protect me from these people I was meeting. There was no law against knowing them, but it wouldn’t happen. LA isn’t a walking city, or a subway city, so if someone isn’t in my house or my car we’ll never be together, not even for a moment. And just to be absolutely sure of that, when I leave my car my iPhone escorts me, letting everyone else in the post office know that I’m not really with them, I’m with my own people, who are so hilarious that I can’t help smiling to myself as I text them back.”
--Miranda July, 'It Chooses You'

You’re already home where you feel love

“Mama once told me you, you’re already home where you feel love”
--The Head and the Heart, Lost In My Mind

“I began to draw an invisible boundary between myself and other people. No matter who I was dealing with. I maintained a set distance, carefully monitoring the person’s attitude so that they wouldn’t get any closer. I didn’t easily swallow what other people told me. My only passions were books and music.”
--Haruki Murakami, 'Sputnik Sweetheart'

“Socializing is as exhausting as giving blood. People assume we loners are misanthropes, just sitting thinking, ‘Oh, people are such a bunch of assholes,’ but it’s really not like that. We just have a smaller tolerance for what it takes to be with others. It means having to perform. I get so tired of communicating.”
--Anneli Rufus

“I think if you are really into words and poetry and situations of life, there is always a little kiss of sadness on everything you do… It’s just the kind of person who I am. I always look carefully beneath the outward appearance of things. I want to know what’s really going on in somebody’s heart.”
--Stevie Nicks

“‎Fashion is the armour to survive the reality of everyday life.”
--Bill Cunningham

“The quickest way to know a woman is to go shopping with her.”
--Marcelene Cox

“By 19, I had found my look. Oversize t-shirts, bike shorts, and wrestling shoes. To prevent the silhouette from being too baggy, I would cinch it at the waist with my fanny pack. I was pretty sure I would wear this look forever. The shirts allowed me express myself with cool sayings like ‘there’s no crying in baseball’ and ‘universität heidelberg,’ the bike shorts showed off my muscular legs, and the fanny pack held all my trolley tokens. I was nailing it on a daily basis. Find something like this for yourself as soon as possible.”
--Tina Fey, 'Bossypants'

“Nobody realizes that some people expend tremendous energy merely to be normal.”
--Albert Camus

“Someday, somewhere - anywhere, unfailingly, you’ll find yourself, and that, and only that, can be the happiest or bitterest hour of your life.”
--Pablo Neruda

“Why does the mind do such things? Turn on us, rend us, dig the claws in. If you get hungry enough, they say, you start eating your own heart. Maybe it’s much the same”
--Margaret Atwood, 'The Blind Assassin'

“There’s only one me
I have ever liked being;
the me that you see.”
--Tyler Knott Gregson

Clinging to what you love;
The forfeit of hope has not destroyed you.”

--Ellen West

“I feel like we’re all wounded and we can carry wounds throughout our lives. It can be small incidents that happen, or the soul you’re born into. I’ve always thought I carried this heartbreak since the day I was born.”
--Lykke Li

“I am a dreamer. I know so little of real life that I just can’t help re-living such moments as these in my dreams, for such moments are something I have very rarely experienced. I am going to dream about you the whole night, the whole week, the whole year.”
--Fyodor Dostoyevsky

“May what I do flow from me like a river, no forcing and no holding back, the way it is with children.”
--Rainer Maria Rilke

“I met a lot of people in Europe. I even encountered myself.”
--James Baldwin

“Let nature do the freezing and frightening and isolating in this world. Let men work and love and fight it off.”
--Jack Kerouac

“I’m not a girl, nor will I ever be. But if I were a girl, I’d like to be Sofia. She’s very feminine. And she’s very quiet. But then, her movie’s done. She loves fashion and music and art and film, and she is able to combine them in a way that all seems to be quite natural. There’s nothing forced about it; she doesn’t have that gritty hunger to prove what she knows. There are certain people who have confidence and absolutely adore themselves and, five minutes around them, I just want to not be around them anymore. Sofia is confident in such a lovely way. It’s not aggressive or arrogant, and that’s a gift. I’m sure she works quite hard, but it all seems effortless.”
--Marc Jacobs on Sofia Coppola

The smallest things take up the most room in your heart.

"Doubt everything. Find your own light."
--Siddhārtha Gautama

"One never learns how the witch became wicked."
--Gregory Maguire

"There's a million guys out there at a million bars having a million drinks about you tonight."
--Steven Tyler

You can have it if you want but someday I’ll make a better one.
--Lykke Li, I Know Places

“Shower, keep clean, enjoy colors and animals. People, if possible.”
--Sylvia Plath

“I automatically assume people won’t like me, so I don’t talk to them unless they approach me first. I can’t become a part of a crowd because I can’t get past that feeling that I don’t belong.”
--Stephanie Kuehnert

“I’ve been savin’ this money for a dee-vorce if ever I get a husband!”
--Annie, 'It’s a Wonderful Life'

“Dear God,” she prayed, “let me be something every minute of every hour of my life. Let me be gay; let me be sad. Let me be cold; let me be warm. Let me be hungry… have too much too eat. Let me be ragged or well dressed. Let me be sincere — be deceitful. Let me be truthful; let me be a liar. Let me be honorable and let me sin. Only let me be something every blessed minute. And when I sleep, let me dream all the time so that not one little piece of living is ever lost.”
--'A Tree Grows In Brooklyn'

“You are a good person, though. I can tell that much from looking at you. I can tell these things after seven years of watching people come up and go here: there are people who can open their hearts and people who can’t. You’re one of the ones who can. Or, more precisely, you can if you want to.” “What happens when people open their hearts?” Cigarette dangling from her lips, Reiko clasped her hands together on the table. She was enjoying this, “They get better,” she said.”
--Haruki Murakami, 'Norwegian Wood'

“Anyway, I want a cat,” she said, “I want a cat. I want a cat now. If I can’t have long hair or any fun, I can have a cat.”
--Hemingway

“Why didn’t I learn to treat everything like it was the last time? My greatest regret was how much I believed in the future.”
--Jonathan Safran Foer, 'Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close'

“One of my big concerns these past few years is that I’ve been losing the ability to feel things with the same intensity - the way I felt when I was younger. It’s scary - to feel your emotions floating away and just not caring.”
--Douglas Coupland

“'Sometimes,’ said Pooh, ‘the smallest things take up the most room in your heart.'”
--A.A. Milne

“We are the water
sitting so still and waiting
to be splashed into.”
--Tyler Knott Gregson

“I don’t change my handbag every season. I believe in the Yves Saint Laurent woman who either has her hands in the pockets of her pantsuit or is holding her lover’s hand. She doesn’t need a bag.”
--Carine Roitfeld

“Sweatpants are a sign of defeat. You lost control of your life so you bought some sweatpants.”
--Karl Lagerfeld

“I write differently from what I speak, I speak differently from what I think, I think differently from the way I ought to think, and so it all proceeds into deepest darkness.”
--Franz Kafka

“Certainly we talk to ourselves; there is no thinking being who has not experienced that. One could even say that the word is never a more magnificent mystery than when, within a man, it travels from his thought to his conscience and returns from his conscience to his thought. This is the only sense of the words, so often used in this chapter, “he said,” “he exclaimed”; we say to ourselves, we speak to ourselves, we exclaim within ourselves, without breaking the external silence. There is great tumult within; everything within us speaks, except the tongue. The realities of the soul, though not visible and palpable, are nonetheless realities.”
--Victor Hugo, 'Les Misérables'

“I am eternally, devastatingly romantic, and I thought people would see it because “romantic” doesn’t mean “sugary”. It’s dark and tormented — the furor of passion, the despair of an idealism that you can’t attain.”
--Catherine Breillat

“I wonder if four-leaf clovers have any insecurities about their deformity that could be healed with the knowledge that people value them.”
--Haley G Hoover

“Normally I didn’t see a great deal. I didn’t hear a great deal either. I didn’t pay attention. Strictly speaking I wasn’t there. Strictly speaking I believe I’ve never been anywhere.”
--Samuel Beckett

“As I grow to understand life less and less, I learn to love it more and more.”
--Jules Renard

“Nothing I like to do pays well.”
--Charles Portis, 'True Grit'

“It is not easy to find happiness in ourselves, and it is not possible to find it elsewhere.”
--Agnes Repplier

“Loneliness is something I’ve never been bothered with because I’ve always had this terrible itch for solitude.”
--Charles Bukowski

“The power of finding beauty in the humblest things makes home happy and life lovely.”
--Louisa May Alcott

“She was like the moon—part of her was always hidden away.”
--Dia Reeves

“Nothing makes a woman more beautiful than the belief that she is beautiful.”
--Sophia Loren

“I wonder what it is in women,” she said. “Whenever they find a big strong guy with a wide adolescent streak running through him, they get a powerful urge to hold his head in their laps.”
--Robert Parker

I'll find strength in pain

All lyrics by Mumford & Sons

And there will come a time, you'll see, with no more tears
And love will not break your heart, but dismiss your fears
Get over your hill and see what you find there
With grace in your heart and flowers in your hair

And now my heart stumbles on things I don't know

Lend me your hand and we'll conquer them all
But lend me your heart and I'll just let you fall
Lend me your eyes I can change what you see
But your soul you must keep, totally free

In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die
Where you invest your love, you invest your life

Seal my heart and brake my pride
I've nowhere to stand and now nowhere to hide
Align my heart, my body, my mind
To face what I've done and do my time

But close my eyes for a while
Force from the world a patient smile

Rate yourself and rake yourself
Take all the courage you have left
Wasted on fixing all the problems
That you made in your own head

And I'll find strength in pain
And I will change my ways

Cause I need freedom now
And I need to know how
To live my life as it's meant to be

Lead me to the truth and I will follow you with my whole life

And my head told my heart
"Let love grow"
But my heart told my head
"This time no"

Wanna take my time for me.

“I was never one to patiently pick up broken fragments and glue them together again and tell myself that the mended whole was as good as new. What is broken is broken - and I’d rather remember it as it was at its best than mend it and see the broken places as long as I lived.”
--Margaret Mitchell

I hate looking at myself and realizing that I don't like what I see. I hate looking back at things I did and wondering why I was like that. Every day there's something wrong. Just one trivial thing that can make me unhappy for just a moment. It's like it's not even possible to have a day without one bad feeling.

“Choosing a path meant having to miss out on others. She had a whole life to live, and she was always thinking that, in the future, she might regret the choices she made now. “I’m afraid of committing myself,” she thought to herself. She wanted to follow all possible paths and so ended up following none. Even in that most important area of her life, love, she had failed to commit herself. After her first romantic disappointment, she had never again given herself entirely. She feared pan, loss, and separation. These things were inevitable on the path to love, and the only way of avoiding them was by deciding not to take that path at all. In order not to suffer, you had to renounce love. It was like putting out your own eyes not to see the bad things in life.”
--Paulo Coelho, 'Brida'

“A dog has no use for fancy cars or big homes or designer clothes. Status symbol means nothing to him. A waterlogged stick will do just fine. A dog judges others not by their color or creed or class but by who they are inside. A dog doesn’t care if you are rich or poor, educated or illiterate, clever or dull. Give him your heart and he will give you his. It was really quite simple, and yet we humans, so much wiser and more sophisticated, have always had trouble figuring out what really counts and what does not. As I wrote that farewell column to Marley, I realized it was all right there in front of us, if only we opened our eyes. Sometimes it took a dog with bad breath, worse manners, and pure intentions to help us see.”
--John Grogan

"If you spend your time waiting for the inspiration to come to you, for the ideas to “gush forth”, it will be too late. It is like with magazines: there is a deadline…we have deadlines and that is a healthy form of discipline. It creates ideas."
--Karl Lagerfeld

“You have been told that real life is not like college and you have been correctly informed. Real life is more like high school.”
--Meryl Streep

“I love to sleep. Do you? Isn’t it great? It really is the best of both worlds. You get to be alive and unconscious.”
--Rita Rudner

“I’m free, I think. I shut my eyes and think hard and deep about how free I am, but I can’t really understand what it means. All I know is I’m totally alone. All alone in an unfamiliar place, like some solitary explorer who’s lost his compass and his map. Is this what it means to be free?”
--Haruki Murakami

I'd hate to be snow. Even if it's true that every flake's different, they're still the same to me. Stars are better. They hang in the sky. People stretch their eyes looking for them. They shed sparks. Have names. You can't touch them. They don't melt.

“I studiously avoid looking at myself in a mirror. It would not be productive. If we think we have physical imperfections, obsessing about them is only destructive. Low self-esteem involves imagining the worst that other people can think about you. That means they’re living upstairs in the rent-free room.”
--Roger Ebert

“There’s always a weak way out. I’ve always known that. Yeah, I didn’t want to be here, but I didn’t want to kill myself. I just wanted to push a button and disappear. The dogs were there when no one else was there. I think I hadn’t left the house for four or five months, and I was sitting in the closet, sleeping in the closet for some reason, and I was in a bad place, and I just remember I was thinking, ‘Oh, man, if I do this.’ And then I looked at my dog, Lowjack, and he made a sound, like a little almost human sound. I don’t have kids, the dogs became everything to me. The dog was looking at me going, ‘Who’s going to take care of me?’”
--Mickey Rourke

“Well, this is not how I expected to wake up this morning. After I recieved the news, Malia walked in and said, “Daddy, you won the Nobel Peace Prize, and it is Bo’s birthday.” And then Sasha added, “Plus, we have a three-day weekend coming up.” So, it’s good to have kids to keep things in perspective.”
--Obama, on winning the Nobel Peace Prize

Hell is other people at breakfast.

“I wanna breeze and an open mind
I wanna swim in the ocean
Wanna take my time for me”
--Stereophonics, 'Maybe Tomorrow'

And that's me: I suffer from a failure of imagination. I could do what I wanted, every day of my life, and what I want to do, apparently, is to get walloped out of my head and pick fights. Telling me I can do anything I want is like pulling the plug out of the bath and then telling the water it can go anywhere it wants. Try it, and see what happens.

I don't have a choice but I still choose you.

"It's not how old you are, it's how you are old."
--Jules Renard

If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.

I'm the sort of person that's always dwelling on the destination rather than the journey. Even when I'm in a great situation... there's always this moving thought that it is all going to have to end.

This is a blank map that lets you go as far as you want in any direction, with no questions asked, but it's no help at all if you want to know if you're going the right way.
--Story People

"It's about how you're like a lighthouse, always searching far into the distance. But the thing you're looking for is usually close to you and always has been. That's why you have to look within yourself to find answers instead of searching beyond."
--Susane Colasanti, 'Waiting For You'

"Time is God’s way of keeping everything from happening at once."
--Wynonna Judd

I wish you'd hold me when I turn my back
The less I give the more I get back
Oh your hands can heal, your hands can bruise
I don't have a choice but I still choose you
--The Civil Wars, Poison & Wine

Look for the dream that keeps coming back. It is your destiny.

"Probably the closest things to perfection are the huge absolutely empty holes that astronomers have recently discovered in space. If there’s nothing there, how can anything go wrong?"
--Richard Brautigan

"No one ever tells you that you’re never going to feel grown up."
--Saroyan

I still feel like you only know what you're doing after you've done it.

"It's no good pretending that any relationship has a future if your record collections disagree violently or if your favorite films wouldn't even speak to each other if they met at a party."
--Nick Hornby, 'High Fidelity'

"Go be that starving Artist you're afraid to be. Open up that journal and get poetic finally. Volunteer. Suck it up and travel. You were not born here to work and pay taxes. You were put here to be part of a vast organism to explore and create. Stop putting it off. The world has much more to offer than what's on 15 televisions at TGI Fridays. Take pictures. Scare people. Shake up the scene. Be the change you want to see in the world. You'll thank yourself for it."
--Jason Mraz

"I still love books. Nothing a computer can do can compare to a book. You can’t really put a book on the Internet. Three companies have offered to put books by me on the Net, and I said, ‘If you can make something that has a nice jacket, nice paper with that nice smell, then we’ll talk.’ All the computer can give you is a manuscript. People don’t want to read manuscripts. They want to read books. Books smell good. They look good. You can press it to your bosom. You can carry it in your pocket."
--Ray Bradbury

"He went down trying not to look long at her, as though she were the sun, but he saw her, as one sees the sun, without looking."
--Leo Tolstoy

"Here's to the few who forgive what you do, and the fewer who don't even care."
--Leonard Cohen

"There is a war between the ones who say there is a war and the ones who say there isn't."
--Leonard Cohen

"We are cups, constantly and quietly being filled. The trick is, knowing how to tip ourselves over and let the beautiful stuff out."
--Ray Bradbury

let’s go said he
not too far said she
what’s too far said he
where you are said she
--e. e. cummings

"People work too hard to figure out the meaning of their lives. Why ME, why NOW. The truth is, sometimes things don’t happen to you for a reason. Sometimes it’s just about being in the right place at the right time for someone else."
--Jodi Picoult

Today is the day to: dream of trips to Paris, listen to Simon & Garfunkle, Karen Ann, & Beth Orton, draw comics, celebrate, write letters, drink coffee, believe in more, read books, buy flowers, take a walk, take a compliment, eat fresh fruit, let go, kiss your boyfriend, love your cat, plan on a cupcake, think up new ideas, compliment your mom, rock out, stare at clouds, take polaroids, laugh out loud, make a list, turn off the computer, buy new shoes, shave your legs, talk to muses, feel GREAT, plan a trip, a dream, a way to take over the world, finish something that is still unfinished, believe you can DO IT ALL.

You want to keep the world the way it is. Every generation wants to be the last. Every generation hates the next trend in music they can't understand. We hate to give up those reigns of our culture. To find our own music playing in elevators.

There's a hell of a good universe next door: let's go.

"Promise me you'll always remember: You're braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think."
--Christopher Robin to Pooh

It's so hard to forget pain, but it's even harder to remember sweetness. We have no scar to show for happiness. We learn so little from peace.

"Just when you think it can't get any worse, it can. And just when you think it can't get any better, it can."
--Nicholas Sparks, 'At First Sight'

Sacrifice. We all make them. You kept thinking about what you lost. You didn’t get it. Sacrifice is a part of life. It’s supposed to be. It’s not something to regret. It’s something to aspire to.

"We're all susceptible to it, the dread and anxiety of not knowing what's coming. It's pointless in the end, because all the worrying and the making of plans for things that could or could not happen, it only makes things worse. So walk your dog or take a nap. Just whatever you do, stop worrying. Because the only cure for paranoia is to be here, just as you are."
--'Grey's Anatomy'

Pain beats regret every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

"Adopt the pace of nature; her secret is patience."
--Ralph Waldo Emerson

You can't stop the future, you can't rewind the past. The only way to learn the secret is to press play.

"Hope is the thing with feathers, that perches in the soul, and sings the tune without words, and never stops at all."
--Emily Dickenson

"Listen; there's a hell of a good universe next door: let's go."
--E.E. Cummings

Travel, travel, travel. Do not settle into the life of the normal average citizen, be more. Realize that time helps, when nothing else can. And that there are two types of people in this world, those who are unhappy, and those who do whatever it takes to ensure their happiness, and you are one of those people.

“There is no such thing as was. To me, no man is himself, he is the sum of his past. There is no such thing really as was, because the past is. It is part of every man, every woman, and every moment.”
--William Faulkner

"Some men have thousands of reasons why they cannot do what they want to, when all they need is one reason why they can."
--Willis Whitney

"Charm. It's a sort of bloom on a woman. If you have it you don't need to have anything else; and if you don't have it, it doesn't much matter what else you have."
--James Matthew Barrie

"It is good that the young are beautiful; it is the only advantage they have."
--The Duchess of Windsor

We would often be sorry if our wishes were granted.

"There are two days in the week on which I never worry; One is yesterday and the other is tomorrow."
--Robert Burdette

Independence is the part that drew you in
You said I like the way you know a thing or two

You gotta have hope
You gotta have something
There's always a reason to break
Hope
'Cause nothing less
Will save the day

"Isn't it sad to be in a place where everything is so unbelievable you'd believe anything?"
--'Go Ask Alice'

"If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?"
--'Alice in Wonderland'

"I do not know anyone who has got to the top without hard work. That is the recipe. It will not always get you to the top, but should get you pretty near.”
--Margaret Thatcher

She only drinks coffee at midnight
When the moment is not right
Her timing is quite unusual
You see her confidence is tragic
but her intuition: magic

All lyrics by Colbie Caillat

You say it's easier to burn than to build
You say it's easier to hurt than to heal
But I say you lose when you give up what you love
And I've lived my life without you long enough
--'I Won't'

So let's just try to cool it down
The fighting this feeling of flames
So let's try to slow it down
We crash when we race
--'Begin Again'

As I'm standing here
And you hold my hand
Pull me towards you
And we start to dance
All around us
I see nobody
Here in silence
It's just you and me
--'Fallin' For You'

I'm still feelin' the rain fall
And bouncin' off my skin
How long do I have to wait for
The sun to shine again
Come on, paint me the rainbows
I can follow it
I don't know where it'll take me
But I like wonderin'
--'Rainbow'

I'm gonna stop in the middle
Hang my feet off the edge
I got no reason to worry
--'Rainbow'

Then that's the way it is
We live with what we miss
We learn to build another wall
'Till it falls
--'Fearless'

No, I don't want to break when I speak
I don't want to shake while I'm standing
I don't want to crawl into another hole
I don't know what I'm hiding for
No, I don't want to fall when I stand
I don't want to have to hold your hand
I just want to be the girl I use to be when I was me and worry free
I know these burnings on my own
--'It Stops Today'

I kind of like the challenge, I don't need help
I'm going to make it past the very start
Its always been my hardest part

All lyrics by Sugarland

Knowing that we will always end up right where we start
'Cause I got time on my hands and hope in my heart

April showers bring May flowers
I have seen rain before
But if Sunday morning lets that sun in
What are we waiting for
'Cause love leaves an open door

Cowboys ride into sunsets
The good guy always gets the girl
Cinderella has just fit
A glass slipper that changed her world
We all know the stories
We all know the fairy tales
We all get the glory of making it for ourselves
From the beginning
We're all looking for a happy ending
Every dream of winning
Every love we've been in
Right from the beginning
We're looking for a happy ending

And all those dreamers who have come and gone
Who've reached for the stars, who've overcome
You're the hope, you're the wish, you're the truth
Baby, here's the proof
Baby's born in this ghetto
Baby's born with a silver spoon
One tells his Mama I have a dream
One tells his Mama I want the moon

And if I count all my blessings, I get a smile on my face
Still hard to find faith

I need a deep margarita to help me unwind
Leave my troubles behind

It's written on our palms and it's written on our hearts
It's written in our songs and it's written in the stars
Sometimes all we can do is stand up tall
They're standing in line just to watch us fall

Sometimes it feels like we won't make it through
But the hard times pass like the good ones do

Baby, climb up here, watch the city glow
Let's make a wish on the fireworks below
We're making moments we won't forget
We fill in ones that haven't happened yet

I'm slow to trust but I'm quick to love
I push too hard and I give too much
I ain't saying I'm perfect, but I promise I'm worth it

What if I said yes
What if I'd gone out that night
What if you'd turned left
Everything would've turned out alright
What if I'd spoke up
What'd if I'd took the keys
What if I had tried a little harder instead of always trying to please

It's hard to say goodbye
'Cause baby, it's a good life

It's takes a lot of tears to find love
The kind of love you can be proud of
That suits me just fine

That's life, if you open up your eyes
You'll find it gets better all the time

I never really noticed when he moved in next to me
Sometimes it's amazing just how blind a girl can be
If I weren't busy runnin'
I might have seen it comin'

Lips like gravity pull me under
Wreckless weather on his breath
Smells like rain, it hits like thunder
A storm is coming, I got nothing left

Somehow we're never quite prepared

I step to the edge to see my world below
and I laugh at myself as the tears roll down
'cause it's the world I know

"Yesterday’s just a memory, tomorrow is never what it’s supposed to be.”
--Bob Dylan

Sorry, I'm only human
You know me, grown up
Oh no, guess again
My days always dry up and blow away
Progress, changing
Growing then giving up
Somehow we're never quite prepared

What if we stop having a ball?
What if the paint chips from the wall?
What if there's always cups in the sink?
What if I'm not what you think I am?
What if I fall further than you?
What if you dream of somebody new?
What if I never let you win, chase you with a rolling pin?
Well what if I do?
I am giving up on making passes and
I am giving up on half empty glasses and
I am giving up on greener grasses
I am giving up
What if our baby comes home after nine?
What if your eyes close before mine?
What if you lose yourself sometimes?
Then I'll be the one to find you
Safe in my heart

Risk something, take back what's yours
Say something that you know they might attack you for
'Cause I'm sick of being treated like I have before
Like it's stupid standing for what I'm standing for

If you wait for someone else's hand you will surely fall down.

Picture, you're the queen of everything

All lyrics by The Fray

Happiness was just outside my window
I thought it'd crash blowing eighty miles an hour
But happiness is a little more like knocking
On your door, you just let it in

But you are gone, not for good but for now
And gone for now feels a lot like gone for good

Happiness, it's like the old man told me
Look for it and you'll never find it all
But let it go, live your life and leave it
Then one day, you'll wake up and
She'll be home

Picture you're the queen of everything
Far as the eye can see
Under your command
I will be your guardian
When all is crumbling
I'll steady your hand

You been the song playing on the background
All along but you're turning up now
And everyone is rising to meet you, to greet you
Turn around and you're walking toward me
I'm breaking down and you're breathing slowly
You say the word and I will be your man

Quiet, but I'm sure there is something here
Tell me everything 'cause I want to hear

It's a kiss that sits upon on her lips
That waits for planes and battleships
She wants to be a dancer
And he has got a picture
On his wall, and it's a sailor
In a new port every night
Yet man was born to trouble
Like sparks fly upwards innocent

All we know is distance
We're close and then we run
Kiss away the difference
I know you hate this one

I wanted it all and that's what I got

All random lyrics

Maybe you want her, maybe you need her
Maybe you had her, maybe you lost her

Girls do what they want
Boys do what they can

And I hope you have more luck with this than me

The longer you think, the less you know what to do

You know I still adore you
But in a different kind of way
You know I still adore you
But things have gotten vague

Just take me back to the start
When your earthquake was just cracks
You must ask yourself everyday
Just how high are the highs

I believe in anything that brings you back home to me

Half the distance
Half the motion
Communication
It's easy as the ocean

I'll miss the playgrounds and the animals and digging up worms
I'll miss the comfort of my mother and the weight of the world
I'll miss my sister, miss my father, miss my dog and my home
Yeah, I'll miss the boredom and the freedom and the time spent alone

She'll lead you down a path, there'll be tenderness in the air
She'll let you come just far enough, so you know she's really there
And she'll look at you and smile, and her eyes will say
She's got a secret garden
Where everything you want, where everything you need
Will always stay a million miles away

The girl I was with a business degree probably wouldn't recognize me
I was gonna run the bank, I was gonna run the math
Now all I wanna run is a bubble bath
Back then, you know, I had this plan before all this reality set in
Here comes life, boy, ready or not
Hey, I wanted it all and that's what I got

Love is so fickle.

All lyrics by Regina Spektor

I'm twenty years of clean
And I never truly hated anyone or anything

Every morning I wake up
With a purpose and a smirk

Come on bartender,
Won't you be more tender?

Love will be the death of me
Love is so fickle
It starts with a flood
And it ends with a trickle

Don't tell your secrets to anyone
Because ideas are vulnerable
As soon as you say your idea out loud
Then it can go and live on it's own
And you will miss it oh so much
And you will wait for it's return
And you will wish it were your own
But ideas that left never come back home

The consonants and vowels
The consequence of sounds
Got a soundtrack in my mind
All the time

You're not a day too soon.

All lyrics by Sia

Deep sea pearl diving
Constantly uwinding
Emotional hiding
Effortlessly shining
Beautiful calm driving

We've accepted and we've laid blame
We've felt separate and we've felt the same

I am a dash and you are a dot
When will you see that I am all that you've got?

I'm greater than X and lesser than Y
So why is it that I still can't catch your eye?

And if I am a number, I'm infinity plus one
And you are five words, you are afraid to be the one
And if you are a number, you're infinity plus one
And if I am four words then I am needing of your love

Careful not to crush me in those hungry hands
Careful not to rush me into this fine romance

I've been running all my life
I ran away from good
I've been waiting all my life
You're not a day too soon

Honey, I will stitch you
Darling, I will fit you in my heart
Honey, I will meet you
Darling, I will keep you in my heart

To tell you the truth, I can't believe I love you so much

He says, "Girl, it's your call,
You wanna fly, you wanna fall?"
So I shout, "I wanna get away from you as fast as I can"
I tell my feet to move it, I hope they have a plan

Your smile I keep on file

You tickle me pink
I love the way you think

He greets the stranger meekly, a thing that she accepts
She sees him waiting often with chocolate on the steps
He senses she is lonely, she's glad they finally met
They take each other's hands, walk into the sunset

I said that I'm just fine

But she makes sure you saw her

Could I kiss you and make you a queen?

All lyrics by 'Augustana'
There you were in your black dress
Moving slow to the sadness
I could watch you dance for hours
I could take you by my side
--Fire

We're passing the time
We're breaking apart
We're damned at the end
We're damned at the start
Blame it on the roses
Blame it on the red
Running out of time
Running out of breath
--Hey Now

Back and forth and side to side
Right ain't wrong if wrong ain't right
I will love you day and night
--I Still Ain't Over You

Climb up a mountain, just to watch it come down
But sooner or later babe, you're gonna need me around
'Cause you're getting older, there ain't no stopping that
It's a backstabbing world honey, just lean your head back
--Meet Me There Someday

Six in the morning, never felt so sweet
Just put on Lucinda baby, and dance with me
I know I'm hard to count on
Forget half what I'm told
You probably only know my voice from
A goddamn microphone
--Meet Me There Someday

Breaking up with your breakdown
Standing tall in your white gown
You're going nowhere, you're going fast
Slowin' down, but it never lasts
Take your time
--Rest, Shame, Love

It's the wrong dream, with the wrong man
With a cold gun, in your own hand
Get it right this time, get it off your mind
Let the summer rain bring you rest and shame and love
--Rest, Shame, Love

If you can't love babe, then you can't hurt
You take the good times, with the worst
--Rest, Shame, Love

Could I kiss you and make you a queen?
Or something in between
--Twenty Years

Move to New York City
Take your woman by the hand
Leave her there with her things on the doorstep
And there's no way around it
Could this be our last dance?
So fall asleep with the TV, darling
I'll be back again
--Twenty Years

You're all alone, and you can't take it
You're just too tired to suffocate it
And all along we'll just fake it
--Where Love Went Wrong

Hold me down, sweet and low, little girl
Hold me down, sweet and low, and I'll carry you home
--Sweet And Low

When she's sleeping on the sofa
When she's laying in her Sunday best
When she's turning over Friday
I could swear I'm sleeping less and less
When the ocean's getting warmer
And California's on her mind
Los Angeles is tired, but we always seem to feel alright
--Sunday Best

Jack and coke, please take off your coat
Come and dance, shuffle with a glance
Come and smile, please stay here awhile
--Bullets

She's shaking in the car with a gun in her hands
Falling over love and the sweet romance
And I ain't never thought it could come down to this
A bullet in my head with the sweetest kiss
--Bullets

'Cause it's 5 o'clock, the hour stops the sunlight
The buildings shade the masquerade and kill time
Here we're nothin' more than fools and whores and sad highs
Through the summer sand, we're living in a wasteland
--Wasteland

She said I think I'll go to Boston, I think I'll start a new life
I think I'll start it over, where no one knows my name
I'll get out of California, I'm tired of the weather
I think I'll get a lover and fly 'em out to Spain
I think I'll go to Boston, I think that I'm just tired
I think I need a new town, to leave this all behind
I think I need a sunrise, I'm tired of the sunset
I hear it's nice in the Summer, some snow would be nice
--Boston
