It's the simple life for me.

“I was drawn to all the wrong things: I liked to drink, I was lazy, I didn’t have a god, politics, ideas, ideals. I was settled into nothingness; a kind of non-being, and I accepted it. I didn’t make for an interesting person. I didn’t want to be interesting, it was too hard. What I really wanted was only a soft, hazy space to live in, and to be left alone.”
--Charles Bukowski

We can go all night
dancing to music we’ve never heard
and don’t much care for
drinking until it gets so very funny
every word, every step.
--Dallas Clayton

"I am simply looking for beauty, whatever that is - it's nothing that can be explained - only felt. If I find it in a single bowl, or wandering line of pots, good. I am grateful."
--Gwyn Hanssen Pigott, 'Potter'

Always treat your woman like a lady.
Never get too old to call her baby.
Never let your praying knees get lazy.
And love like crazy.

And then God created Saturn…and he liked it, so he put a ring on it…

"Gorgeous. Haunting. Let go. Decompress. Grandiose and gratifying. The waves will roll over you."
--Dianna Agron

Take me to the place where the sea meets the sky. It's the simple life for me.

i am not strange
i am an artist

"Now listen, life is lovely, but I Can’t Live It. I can’t even explain. I know how silly it sounds… but if you knew how it Felt. To be alive, yes, alive, but not be able to live it. Ay that’s the rub. I am like a stone that lives… locked outside of all that’s real… do you know of such things, can you hear? I wish, or think I wish, that I were dying of something for then I could be brave, but to be not dying, and yet… and yet to be behind a wall, watching everyone fit in where I can’t, to talk behind a gray foggy wall, to live but to not reach or to reach wrong… to do it all wrong… believe me, (can you?)"
Anne Sexton, 'A Self-Portrait in Letters'

"She would tell her about the music and the lights and how when you got going fast some looked like stars and others looked like fireflies that came so close to your nose you had to be careful not to breathe them in."
--Dennis G. Dillingham, Jr., 'The White Carousel Horse'

“She looked out the window her whole life, the way so many women sit their sadness on an elbow.”
--Sandra Cisneros

We have advantages. We have a cushion to fall back on. This is abundance. A luxury of place and time. Something rare and wonderful. It's almost historically unprecedented. We must do extraordinary things. We have to. It would be absurd not to.

I prefer places where buildings are not taller than the tallest of trees

I was anti-everything and everyone. I didn't want people around me. This aversion was not some big crippling anxiety; merely a mature recognition of my own psychological vulnerability and my lack of suitability as a companion. Thoughts jostled for space in my crowded brain as I struggled to give them some order which might serve to motivate my listless life.

"What is beautiful for you may not be beautiful to someone else. Or whatever is beautiful here may not be beautiful there and what is sometimes beautiful today is not necessarily beautiful tomorrow. Perhaps this is the story of fashion and what makes fashion move forward, the fact that there is no decision whatsoever with what's wrong."
--Alber Elbaz, Artistic Director, Lanvin

"If clothes look beautiful on the hangers they won't necessarily look beautiful on the body. And that which may look good on the hanger, may look good on the body. Mr. Geoffrey Beene once told me that fashion is not what's on the back or the front of a coat but what's in between."
--Alber Elbaz, Artistic Director, Lanvin

"Ever tried
Ever failed
No matter
Try again
Fail again
Fail better"
--Samuel Beckett

“I don’t want to earn my living; I want to live.”
--Oscar Wilde

"Everybody has to leave, everybody has to leave their home and come back so they can love it again for all new reasons."
--Donald Miller, 'Through Painted Deserts'

"Dogs are minor angels, and I don't mean that facetiously. They love unconditionally, forgive immediately, are the truest of friends, willing to do anything that makes us happy, etcetera. If we attributed some of those qualities to a person we would say they are special. If they had ALL of them, we would call them angelic. But because it's "only" a dog, we dismiss them as sweet or funny but little more. However when you think about it, what are the things that we most like in another human being? Many times those qualities are seen in our dogs every single day-- we're just so used to them that we pay no attention."
--Jonathan Carroll

"When people talk about the good old days, I say to people, 'It's not the days that are old, it's you that's old.' I hate the good old days. What is important is that today is good."
--Karl Lagerfeld
